KEP-workshop: Care and Conservation of Fluid Preserved Collections for Exhibition and Outreach
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: This short, non-practical workshop will provide an overview of the conservation, care, and handling of fluid preserved collection for use in exhibition and outreach work.The first part will provide a background in the methods used to fixate and preserve biological specimens. The second part will then do an overview of jars and display containers.
It will then look at the range of conservation issues encountered and approaches to tackling these problems with respect to utilising these collections in exhibition and outreach work including the consideration of less hazardous alternative fluids.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: Julian Carter is Principal Conservator of natural sciences at National Museum Cardiff in Wales. He has many years of experience in taking care of and conserving fluid preserved specimens. And in sharing his knowledge through workshops and conferences. He is co-author of: Best Practices in the Preservation and Management of Fluid-Preserved Biological Collections.
